Extremophiles: Living Life at the Edge of Possibilities

INTRODUCTION  We call the study of life as Biology but recently scientists have discovered a narrow view where life could possibly exist. The assumption is that living organisms require conditions similar to those on Earth's surface which are moderate temperature, neutral pH levels and abundant oxygen. In the latter of 20th century, this view was shattered as extremophiles were discovered. These are the organisms which thrive in environments that were once thought to be too hostile for life. Extremophiles are known to have rewritten tha rules of biology because of their possibility to exist in boiling hot springs,deep-sea hydrothermal vents, acidic lakes and frozen glaciers. This existence has expanded our understanding of the limit of life on earth and has also fueled the search for life life beyond our planet Earth. In this blog post,we will dive deep into the world of extremophiles by knowing about their types, survival strategies, importance and how origin of life is o...

Unveiling the microscopic world:MICROBES

INTRODUCTION  Microbes, or theye are known as  microorganisms, are the tiny living creatures present in quantity of thousands and are found all around us. The world wouldn't have been the same if these invisible agents who control the air we breathe and the food we eat were not present. However, despite their size, microbes are vital in maintaining the balance of our ecosystem, and this has benefits for human health, the environment, and technology. Often, microbes are usually viewed as germs or pests, and our focus is to  clean them, and antibiotic arsenal.  But as we have begun to comprehend the scope of these tiny organisms, we now see them as our planet’s unsung heroes. They work tirelessly so that our planet always remains healthy, sustainable, and keeps on flourishing. From the microorganisms residing in our intestines that affect our mood, metabolism, and immune response, to those that decompose organic matter and replenish nutrients in the s...
